Why bullying should not be taken lightly

Bullying is not a new reality. However, the effects of bullying and the psychology behind it are being examined more thoroughly in the wake of teen suicides and increasing mental health disorders in adolescents nationwide who have been bullied past their breaking points.

Going back to school means more time on the playground, the soccer field and the basketball court. Dealing With Bullying
Former Bully Sends Powerful Apology To Classmate
20 Years Later
Every day thousands of teens wake up afraid to go to school. Bullying is a problem that affects millions of students, and it has everyone worried, not just the kids on its receiving end. Yet because parents, teachers, and other adults don't always see it, they may not understand how extreme bullying can get.

An apology that one man received from an old classmate reminds us all that it's never too late to right your wrongs... But earlier this month, about 20 years after the bullying occurred, [Chad] Morrisette received a message from Louis Amundson, one of those bullies. 'The Survival Guide to Bullying'

Bullying is defined by Webster's dictionary as "the use of superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants." Bullying is a devastating thing and it is not just a physical attack but it can be done through words and emotions as well. Cyber bullying is a newer form of bullying that occurs among today's children and teens.

Bullying does not just affect young children and teenagers but it affects adults as well. It is not uncommon to be bullied in the workplace by a person who has a superiority complex or to be bullied by a fellow driver with road rage. Bullying leaves lasting effects and a lot of people do not feel comfortable addressing the issue because they feel inadequate or fearful.
